Hi,

We have a (top secret) school project we're working on and need some help!

Seeing you guys & gals know all - we thought we'd ask here.

We're after an mp3 of the intro/exit theme for the recent Astro series as aired in Australia last year (2004) and also some 3D CAD or modelling files for Astro.

Any links you can supply would be greatly appreciated.

The project will be under wraps until September, but when all is revealed should be of interest to you all and we'll be happy to show off our creations then.

Thanks,

gecko

Music can be found on my FTP:

ftp://ast:ast@atomu.ath.cx:6872/

I've seen at least 2 3D modelled astroboy video files made by fans. I'm pretty sure the 2 I'm thinking about are on the FTP in the /video_clips/ directory. One was by some guy who called himself FOX or his alias had the word "fox" in it. His site was up still last time I checked, but that may have been over 2 years ago now. The other had branding on the video file itself with a name or URL to find the guy who made it. He used it as a demo of his skills since he's doing modelling as a career. "stu-art" Maybe?

Went through my pics and tracked down one more guy;
http://www.kengyu.com/PICT/atom.html

Maybe one of those guys would let you use their model...

And, of course Sonic Team has a model of astro for the PS2 game, but it'd be pretty hard to convince them to send you that.

Good luck on the secret project!

I was looking for an Astro 3D model a couple of weeks ago. Your best shot is probably to get the Quake 2 model that Jonny Gordon made years ago:

And import it into the MilkShape 3D modelling programme and try to bump up the poly count. The Q2 model is a bit rough but the proportions seem alright.

Milkshape is free (or perhaps shareware) and supports the Quake model format natively.

I just managed to learn how to extract audio stream from a divx, and as a small exercise I extracted the opening sequence of the English version, and the opening and closing sequences of the Japanese version. I have put them on my FTP server. In case you still haven't found what you were looking for, help yourself B)

Hi,

fafner; you legend! That's the audio we were after (the english version one).

Anapan; the Kengyu picture of Astro was a dead end. The company that has the model can't release it as it was produced for an advertising firm and is still their property. They were very nice about it though. We may still be able to use their picture for some proportions.

DrFrag; thanks for the Quake link. Haven't joined up to download the model and being a mac user, will have to find another editor to use the quake model format. Their model seems a little bigger in the legs and slightly wider in the head?

Still following up some of the other links you guys have supplied.

Thanks heaps!

Blender is a good multi-platform 3D editor for what I know (I never used it myself).
After a quick search, I found this editor could use custom importers/exporters. A Quake importer/exporter (which version?) seems to be among them, see the page: http://www.blender.org/modules.php?op=modl...article&sid=144
Good luck B)

You'll have a fair bit of leeway with body proportions, since the way he's been drawn has changed so much over the years.

Hi,

fafner; Thanks for the Blender tip. I already had blender so that's a bonus. Not sure which quake format the model is, but will investigate. Will try the MD2 importer first as the polycount site says it's a quake2 model. The school is about to buy VectorWorks (http://www.ozcad.com.au), which we hope to use for our modelling.

DrFrag; OK on the proportions. That makes sense.

Thanks,

gecko
