Anyone know if the soundtrack to the 80's Astroboy series is available anywhere in the world in any format? I'm desparate!

Maybe you could try on Anapan's FTP server:

Thanks fafner, I've got all the stuff from there, what I'm really looking for is the incidental music that plays throughout.

The closest you can get is this CD:

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=FLCF-3947

It has 11 tracks from the 80s series. A bit over half of them have the original Japanese lyrics (the incidental music in the English dub doesn't have lyrics).

There are many other incidental music tracks, of course. The only way I can think of getting them is to capture clean segments of them as they are played across the series, then paste them together. :( I've started doing this but I really need a DVD source rather than VHS, so I won't be continuing work on it until Madman release the DVDs. (I have the Japanese DVDs, but the data stream is corrupt so I can't rip it to AVI for easier handling)

Ok after doing some research I've found the following pages:

--------

http://www.coolstuffvideos.com/cdkaiju.html which hints at the following cds...

"Best of Tezuka's Sound World-1999 release 19 track 50:34 total running time

Contains Best of Best Tezuka Unico, Monkey King, Astroboy original soundtrack

Astroboy Roots of Electronic Sound-1998 release 72 tracks 39:39 total running time

Contains original background sounds, take offs, landings, flying, monster sounds, etc. "

---------

http://www.astroboy.tv/ep33.html

a 60's episode, but still cool

---------

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KICA-8002

"A compilation album of theme songs from TV (both anime and live action) shows based on ''Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy)''. Contains 18 tracks, including ''Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy)'', ''Mirai Ni Mukatte (For the future)'', ''Uran (Astro Girl) Theme'' and others."

--------

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?K...?KEY=TOCT-24986

"April 7, 2003 is the birthdate of Astro Boy, as told by his creator Osamu Tezuka in his signature comic book. This album compiles Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) theme song, and other songs from the series."

--------

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?K...?KEY=TECD-25414

"This year, a centennial anniversary of Osamu Tezuka. Full reproduction of LP full of music that has never been recorded on CD since '72. Total 18 music including 'Jungle Taitei', 'Dororo No Uta', Ribbon No Kishi', 'Magma Taishi', 'Fushigi Na Merumo', etc."

Anyone know what anything on this page means? :wahah: It looks promising...

"Best of Tezuka's Sound World-1999 release 19 track 50:34 total running time

This is a mix of anime music, so I don't think there would be much Astroboy incidental music.

Astroboy Roots of Electronic Sound-1998 release 72 tracks 39:39 total running time

Contains original background sounds, take offs, landings, flying, monster sounds, etc. "

This is from the 60s series. I asked them about it a while ago. And 72 tracks? That's gotta be a sound effects CD.

Based on? :(

This is probably your best shot, but it's a bit unclear as to which series it's from. The cover art looks sort of 60s style.

A mix of anime music from the 60's.

It's an interview with Tezuka's daughter on the music of Astroboy. A fair bit of it is about her growing up and musical influences. Most of the rest seems to be about the evolution of Astroboy's music into techno.

I went on a big hunt for music from the 80s series a while ago and came up with nothing. I even contacted people who ran big anime soundtrack shops, and they'd never even heard of a release of the Astroboy 80s music.
Then I stumbled on the re-release of the vinyl mentioned earlier in this thread, thanks to a tip off from a Japanese girl in a former Astroboy forum. It was a really lucky find just to get the major tracks from the series.

Thanks Dr. Frag, good detective work. Perhaps Madman might release a cd to co-incide with the new dvd's? Ahhh we can dream can't we? :D

Yeah, that would be good. Like an extra DVD feature. Universal Studios did that with "The Thing" in the US release. Shall we ask them?
