He just means the standard English version; the one with Patty White and Jay Rath.

Also, Astrobuddy is trying to send me a DVD-R of the Canadian versions of "The Girl From Alsoar" and "The Robots Nobody Wanted", so I'll try to get them onto YouTube. :w00t:

Differences of english versions

Ya, it's the only version you can find on DVD (I think). It's the same as the
Australian version (as far as I know). The canadian version had different names, dialog and well... character depth... in my
humble opinion.

The American version Astro's sister is called Uran, Professor is
called Dr. Elephunt etc
The Canadian Version Astro's sister is called Sarah, Professor is
called Dr. Peabody.
Thats the easiest way to tell the difference I've found... that and
the canadian version opening doesn't have the scene of Astro
destroying a futuristic battle tank... for whatever reason.

Again, any tips to finding the canadian version (torrent or purchase)
would be appreciated. It's well worth the effort to find it...

I'm pretty sure the Canadian names listed there are from the 60's version, but I could be wrong. Elefun was known as Dr. Cole Green in the Canadian version for a time, wasn't he?

I can think of two reasons why the opening was cut shorter in the Canadian version.

1. By law, it was required that the Canadian version be noticeably different. One of the differences was that they would add a short narrated prologue before the opening began. In the first episode, it was the narrator giving a brief explanation of Astro's birth. In following episodes, it was of Astro talking to a super computer as they briefly explain the episode, but purposely make an error and encourage people watching to figure out the error and correct it, then 'compare results with their friends'. To keep time restraints, they would have to cut a bit of the opening to fit the prologue in.

2. Astro fires off his 'butt laser' during the opening, and it may have also been cut out as it may have been deemed as being inappropriate. But this seems less likely as the Canadian version cut out more of the opening than just that.

The French and Italian versions also cut out that opening, and I do know that the French version also has a mini prologue.

They couldn't, by law.

Unfortunate, the American names were by far better. Not to mention that it wasn't as heavily cut either.
